It was way too early in the morning for anyone to be awake. Railet had laid there and resigned himself to his fate. He would either die of blood loss or lay in his doorway until the medical team was alerted. To him, either possibility seemed stupid but at the moment he was powerless to change it.
He heaved a sigh when he heard a door opening. Who the hell was up at this time? It wasn't long before he felt them approach him and he braced himself for the worst as best he could.
"Hey.... Are you awake?" A voice rang out. The voice was female and came across softly, almost as if afraid to speak. He didn't blame them, he probably frightened everyone around him.
She finally came into view when she kneeled down next to him. He stared back at her, nearly bordering on a glare. He hated the idea of needing help, but he didn't have much choice. Scaring away the only person that can help is not a smart move.
She seemed a bit startled to see that he was indeed awake and staring at her quite fiercely.
"Okay, you definitely are. Ummm...why don't I get you off the floor?" she said, moving to help get him up. He despised this greatly, having to have someone else help him up. Had he any strength left he would've used it in telling her to get lost. But nothing came out, he was at a loss for words and his head was still spinning when she helped him up.
His weight almost made her topple over with him in tow. He was amazed enough that she was even able to help him up with her strength. Finally, she helped him through the doorway and into his room just as the door closed behind them. She helped him towards a chair and gently putting him down.
He gave a slight hiss as his back hit the chair. She questioned him on where he kept his medical supplies. He silently thought it to be a stupid question. Everyone usually keeps medical supplies in the bathroom, why did she even mention the kitchen of all places?
"Ba.....bath..." was all he could manage to mutter. He watched as she went in to search for the items she'd need. Alone for that moment, he closed his eyes and almost immediately fell asleep. But she came back in and asked him something else. Her voice seemed so loud to his ears that he jumped when she first spoke.
At this point he didn't care what she had to do. She could strip him down and he wouldn't care. He wanted sleep, and had to use all his remaining energy just to stay awake. Though it seemed the more he tried, the more he was drifting off.
At least he didn't have to worry about falling asleep with all those restraints on. They had at least had the decency to take those off when they began their work.
'Hopefully she'll finish soon...I don't think I can....stay awake...any long...er....' he thought as he rolled his head back onto the headrest and fell asleep. Without any restraints on, his full face was exposed to the light of the living room.
But he slept on without a care.

Once she was aware where his medical supplies were, she hurried off to the bathroom to find them. Thankfully, they were all in one place, and she was soon coming back with her arms full of what she needed; some of it being gauze, wrappings, and disinfectant.
"Okay, so I'm going to have to remove your---hey! Wake up!" Was it the blood loss? If so, she needed to alert the medical wing right away; that was the only reason she shouted. Her shout wasn't unheard, in fact, it looked like she'd freaked him out with the way he jumped slightly. That put her more at ease; if he'd passed out because of the blood loss, he needed to stay awake. He did look slightly annoyed, but what did she care? Right now, the important thing was making sure he didn't die! Her first day here and Zairu would have to be explaining why her next door neighbor had died? No thank you!
Setting down the supplies, she left for a moment to grab some washcloths and a large bowl she could put water in. In order to treat, the wounds would have to be clean. Even a five-year-old knew that, even if they didn't fully understand why it had to be clean. While she was getting everything ready, she looked up at the sound of heavy breathing and saw that he had dozed off again.
It took some time for her to finally peel the shirt off him, the blood made it stick to his skin, and she was thankfully that he wasn't awake for this. In fact, as she washed the blood away from his skin, she noted that he was actually quite a looker when he wasn't glaring daggers in her directions. She gave a 'tsk' sound as she looked at the wounds; if he had been paralyzed because of some medication, then that meant the wounds had been inflicted either by himself or others while under the effects. Normally that entailed that he had been around some type of medical personnel. If that were in the medical wing, what the heck where they thinking letting him leave? Zairu was a little glad now that she hadn't alerted them. Who knew what they would've done to treat him?
She worked as quickly and softly as she could, not wanting to wake him up. There was just something about a sleeping person that was angelic; they were completely exposed, completely vulnerable, to whomever or whatever came across them while they slept. To break that magic, especially since she felt she was intruding, was scandelous in her opinion. Finally finishing her work, she looked at the bowl of water she had been using and found it was completely dark, giving insight as to how much blood he'd lost. No wonder he'd collapsed in his doorway! Another 'tsk' sound left her, a frown on her face as she began to clean up the area. The shirt was thrown into the laundry chute, although it probably was beyond salvageable, along with the washcloths she'd used. The bowl's contents were emptied and the bowl itself scrubbed before she returned the medical supplies back to the bathroom. She took a minute to enter his room, careful to keep her eyes focused on only the blanket she wanted to grab, before returning to where he slept. Zairu had thought about grabbing him and taking him to his bed, but the jarring that was sure to happen would probably wake him up. Again, something she did not want to do. With that thought in her mind, she put the blanket over him so that he wouldn't wake up cold, leaving and returning with a glass of water and a couple high-energy foods he could easily eat. The boy would definitely need to rehydrate and reenergize after whatever he'd been through.
Finally finished, and thinking she'd done everything she possibly could, she left his room and returned to her own. Immediately she went to shower and threw her clothes, that had some smeared blood on them, into the chute. Emerging, she grabbed some new clothes and then wandered into the kitchen to see if there was any food. She was too awake to go back to sleep and her stomach was rumbling. Unfortunately, it seemed that she needed to go shopping, or ask for whatever she needed, because the kitchen came up with nothing.
Guess it's time for some exploring...and find where their cafeteria is. She thought as she left her room yet again and began to walk down the hallways. Zairu liked that the hallways were deserted; they had been too crowded during the tour Aurele had given them for her to really pinpoint anything, I wonder how Chiwi is doing...

Railet slept peacefully for what seemed like forever. However, it was only about four hours before a beeping sound started to ring from his pocket. It took several minutes before he was able to recognize the beeping and start waking up. By then a small window had shown up and a doctor was on the other side.
"For crying out loud! Why the hell did you leave the room?! You know we weren't finished! I ought to have you demot-" a voice started reprimanding him, but was interupted as a youth with blue hair pushed him aside.
"Ah, Railet. Are you doing alright? You gave us quite a shock when you left after the procedure. Have you eaten? Why don't you come meet me in the cafeteria, I'll treat you to something." he said waiting for a response.
"Ugh....sure...I guess....The food better be good.." Railet grumbled, groggily getting up. As he stood up, the blanket fell to the floor, finally getting his attention. His eyes then went to the table near the couch and noticed the water and food placed there. That girl was pretty meticulous in caring for him.
He shrugged it off and looked back at the screen, " I'll be there in about 10 minutes. I...have to get dressed." he turned the screen off after he received a nod from him and walked into his room to change.
Pretty soon he was out in the hallway on his way towards the cafeteria. It was pretty early in the morning now, the nocturnal classes would have just ended and the morning students would just be waking up to start getting breakfast.
Of course the cafeteria provided all types of food at any time of day. It merely depended on personal choice.
He wandered into the cafeteria, trying to stifle a yawn but to no avail. He was greeted warmly by his invitee and both went to go sit down. As he passed by some tables, he noticed Zairu who had treated him earlier. He tried to avoid eye contact as much as possible and passed by her without her immediate notice.
'Man...what the hell is wrong with me? She treated me when I need it and I feel guilty about going to eat? Ah, forget it.'
"So, um.... What do you have in mind...Kei?" he started.
"Hmm? Well I was thinking a continental breakfast would be in order....But perhaps you'd prefer something closer to what you eat in the mornings?" the youth named Kei responded, seemingly obvious to the real question. They both choose to sit at a booth, sitting across from the other.
"Not that, idiot. This....thing." he paused as he placed a hand over his chest, " Just....what does it do?"
"Oh that. It regulates your emotions. I have to say, it may just be my best invention yet. I think that it will improve your relations with other students by controlling your temper!" Kei responded, a hint of enthusiasim in his voice.
"Huh.... Yeah...Okay. Hurry up and order your food already." he said as he was already picking things he wanted to eat. " I'll have you know that 'invention' of yours nearly killed me. I barely made it my room alive. For this, you're footing the bill."
"I suppose I have no choice now, do I? Fine then, eat up. But you can only order up to 10 things, got it?! I have bills I have to pay too you know." Kei said, picking up a fork before pointing at him accusingly.
"Hm? Not my fault running this place is expensive. Perhaps you should look into more renewable sources. Ah, miso's here." Railet retorted.
"Well maybe you should be more careful on your missions" Kei replied back, picking up his knife and cutting into his sunny-side up egg.
"Sure." Railet replied sarcastically, successfully ending the argument. From there they sat quietly and ate the food provided.
" So....When do I have to come in?"
"Every Friday. I need to see it working and make adjustments if necessary. Ah, that food was delightful." Kei said, placing his palm on the payment screen. It was quickly met with a chime stating payment was complete. " Here, before I go. Here's your usual, try taking less of it this time would you? See you Friday." Kei grabbed a small bag from his pocket and placed it on the table, waving to him as he left.
Railet watched as he left, before looking back at the bag. He heaved a sigh before grabbing it and leaving himself. 'Take less of it he says. Tch' he thought.
The bell began to chime, signalling that morning students were to get to class. Railet didn't have morning classes so he started heading back to the dorms. Even if he wasn't sleepy, he'd rather be in his room than anywhere else.

Four hours! Four hours of traversing what seemed like the entire complex and she finally had found the cafeteria! Her stomach was now audibly growling, along with a sort of underlying rumble that emanating from her chest, while her ears flicked and tail lashed with barely suppressed annoyance. Geez, she really needed some food now! At least that part was easy and she was soon at a table and getting her order. If that had been barricaded for whatever reason, she would’ve been liable to snap; her stomach felt like it was caving in! She had been half-way through her meal when she finally decided to look up and take in her surroundings. A flash of orange and black caught her eyes for some reason and she realized why; it was the boy she’d helped treat earlier. He seemed really intent on not looking to either side of him. What was his name again? Aurele had said it when he’d told Zairu her room number and had been surprised to find out it was the room next to this boy.
Oh yeah…Railet, I think it was. Zairu thought, munching thoughtfully on a piece of meat. The meat, if she was really focused on it, was rarer than she was used to. It would disturb Zairu a little bit to see that her tastes had changed along with her appearance. Well, her tastes hadn’t changed so much; she was still eating greens that her carnivore counterparts wouldn’t even dream of touching, unless you counted grass for upset wolf stomach. She wondered why he was walking about, especially in his condition, but then again it was good to see that he could. At least she hadn’t killed him in helping to tend to his wounds. She watched for a little bit more, seeing a blue-haired man greeting him. He seemed…a little out of place where feathers and fur were otherwise the norm. Was he one of those who kept this facility running? Han had mentioned that during the tour yesterday. She wished she could talk with Chiwi right now, but as it stood, she hadn’t seen the other girl since yesterday. Even during the time she’d been lost, she’d looked at every feathered creature and was disappointed when it wasn’t her friend.
Finally finishing her food, she got up and began to leave the cafeteria, then realizing she had no idea how to get back to her room. Ah geez, and some sort of bell had rung which had made many of the people scatter. She couldn’t very well ask directions to air, could she? As she tried to remember how to get back, she saw Railet leaving the cafeteria and decided to follow him. If worse came to worse, she could always just ask him which way to go if he wasn’t heading to his room. Zairu made sure to keep a good distance between them, but not too far away that she couldn’t catch up with a couple steps. She was so intent on following and finding a way back that the sudden voice in her ear made her yelp.
“What the hell!?” She howled, clapping a hand to the offending ear. She heard a chuckle on the other end.
“Man, it never gets old! Sorry about that, but I have yet to find a newbie who doesn’t scream murder when they’re contacted like this.” The chuckling continued while Zairu’s face flushed in embarrassment; not only had this person heard her, but she could see that Railet had stopped and was looking at her. Shoot, she hoped he didn’t think she was stalking him; okay, maybe technically, but only so she could find the room!
“Uhhh, yeah…so why are you contacting me?” Zairu said shakily, trying to regain her composure…and hopefully retrieve some of her dignity.
“Well, Zairu Khos, you need to report to the medical wing! You need to be evaluated before we can let you have full access of the facilities here at Siren.” The person continued, Zairu finally deciding it was male, “So if you could please head over there at once, we can get started. Oh, and have you eaten yet?”
“Yes…I just did.” Zairu replied.
“Splendid! Now you won’t pass out when we have to take blood samples! Okay, see you there!”
“Huh? I mean, wait! I don’t know—“ The connection broke off as she finished weakly, “I don’t know how to get there…Shoot!”
She gave a sigh, closing her eyes as she tried to remember where in the tour Aurele had mentioned the medical wing when a voice cut through her train of thought and she jumped. Looking at the source, she found that Railet had told her he would take her there. He looked at her oddly from her sudden reaction to him and she gave a shaky laugh.
“Sorry…I was lost in thought. You startled me.” She said, trying to explain herself. Sheesh, how much of an idiot was she looking right now? Nodding, she replied, “If you could, that would be great.”
Following Railet, she tried to get herself under control while also trying to remember markers that could indicate just exactly where she was at any given time. Finally approaching the medical wing, she gave a sigh of relief. It had only taken maybe ten minutes tops; if she’d been by herself, it probably would’ve taken another four hours.
“Thank you, Railet.” She smiled at him, relieved at having found something without any difficulty. If she had it her way, the path was burned into her memory. Entering into the medical wing, a nurse popped up and asked if she were Zairu Khos. When Zairu replied affirmatively, she was immediately yanked behind a curtain and sat down on a chair.
“Zairu Khos, born on December 3rd and currently nineteen years old. Is this correct?”
“Yes.” Zairu replied as the nurse continued to read off information and asked Zairu to confirm it. Another nurse had entered as was getting ready to take some vials of blood. Okay, they were definitely being thorough on this, since beside that there was blood pressure, heart rate, temperature, and numerous other things.
“So what species were you crossed with? A fluffy Persian?” The nurse joked, pointing at Zairu’s tail.
“Um, no.” Zairu said, “I think I remember them saying something about crossing me with two species.”
“Two species?” The nurse looked confused, but not really surprised, “I guess they’re stepping it up. Okay, what two species were you crossed with?”
Zairu had to think about it for a moment before replying, “I believe Siberian tiger and wolf.”
“A canine and a feline? Guess you’re lucky you didn’t react horribly to them.” The nurse said nonchalantly while Zairu said nothing. Really, what could she say to that? The nurse was speaking truthfully. For awhile, Zairu had to deal with the various testing that they put her under, including an MRI, CAT scan, and X-ray. It was making her a little uncomfortable, but at least they were just doing a health check-up and not trying to splice her anymore than she was.
She was finally brought to a room that seemed to have an observatory portion a little bit above. Zairu was confused; just what other tests could they put her through? They’d done every medical observation, even some she’d never heard of, in the book! What could they possibly do now?
“Okay, Miss Khos, we’re going to do a couple more tests and then you’re free to go!” A voice said over the intercom. Why was she getting a bad feeling about this? Something was up, “We’re going to test the animal DNA now and how it’s advanced a couple of your senses. Ready?”
Did she really have a choice?
“I gue—“ She started before something in her mind screamed at her.
DANGER! JUMP!
Not questioning it, she leapt into the air, hearing the whistling of something as it went through where her head used to be. Her feet had barely touched the ground when the word ‘duck’ came into her mind and she listened. She was soon ducking, dodging, rolling, and leaping to avoid whatever the heck it was that was trying to hit her. One last whistling could be heard and her arm shot forward to stop whatever it was. Although it stung a little bit as it made contact with her palm, but she brought it toward her and found it was a ping pong ball. Where they serious!? The alarm bells were still ringing in her head as she took that brief moment to rest.
“Hey! A little warning next time!?” Zairu snarled, glaring angrily at the looking glass where she was sure the voice had come from, “Who in their right mind shoots ping pong balls at people for a test!?”
The same people who would have a large boulder come hurtling in her direction.
What…the…hell!? She thought briefly as she moved to dodge it, but was shocked to find that the boulder was following her. Okay, this was different from the other test. As she ran around, she was amazed at how it kept changing direction to pursue her. How in the heck were they controlling that!? Finally jumping into the air, she tried to start running across it, but was abruptly thrown off when it decided to start spinning. Hitting the ground, the boulder stopped spinning and started rushing at her. At this rate, she was going to get smashed!
“That’s it!” She growled, planting her feet into the ground and bracing herself as the boulder smashed into her. Zairu gritted her teeth as she pushed with all of her might against the spinning mass of rock. For awhile, it was a stalemate, but Zairu didn’t have the strength to pick it up and throw it away and her endurance was beginning to wane. It was starting to push her backwards and dangerously close to the wall. When she felt her feet start to touch the wall, she knew she needed to move or end up a pancake. Using the last of her strength, she pushed against the boulder before slipping to the side and rolling away as the boulder smashed into the wall. It stopped moving and Zairu could hear her own heavy breathing, sweat trickling down her face from her exertion.
“Are you…huff huff…satisfied now!?” She shouted as she stood up, trying to keep her body from shaking from all of the excess andrenaline in her system. I thought they were going to kill me! Please tell me that is the last of the testing!
Unknowing to her, they were recording her body's reaction to such stressful situations.

From the moment he left the cafeteria, he could feel there was someone following him. They tried pretty hard to make it so he wouldn't notice, but when you're used to picking up scents it didn't take long. However, he just didn't care. So what if someone was following him? Big deal.
He stopped in place when he heard her yelp suddenly. The hell was up with her? She was so weird. He turned to look at her and soon found the reason.
'She must be new. They're probably contacting her for those field tests. Everyone gets lost the first time going there...I have time to kill, I suppose I can show her the way...'
"Hey, girl. You need to go to the medical wing, don't you? I'll take you."
He didn't really bother to wait for her affirmation and start walking away when she first started talking. He didn't care if he startled her or not and could care less about a yes or no. She pretty much had no choice but to follow unless she wanted to get lost again.
Besides, even if she didn't have to go there he had business to attend to there. Kei had given him the wrong medicine....Again.
'God, when is that brat going to learn that I don't take this crap.'
They arrived in less than 10 minutes and Railet immediately took a sharp right into an office. He had a talk with the director there and got his medicine switched out while Zairu was getting various health tests.
They moved her to a new room and were getting ready for the reflex tests. A nurse had walked up to him and asked if wanted to watch, which was replied with a shrug. He followed her anyway and sat down on one of the observational chairs.
'Huh. I remember this test. It was pretty pathetic. Though the last part kinda throws you for a loop. How did I get through that?.....I don't remember...Oh well. It's not important.'
Railet watched as Zairu dodged all the items thrown at her. She had good reflexes, but you can't really rely on that when you're spliced with animal DNA. The deciding factor is how she reacts to the next test.
'A lot of people panic here. I suppose it's understandable. It's not normal to have a boulder hurled at you.'
He stifled a laugh as Zairu ran around in elaborate circles trying to avoid the boulder, almost losing it when she fell off it. She had enough strength to hold it back, but not for long as it started pushing her back. She narrowly managed to avoid it and passed the test, but she seemed pretty exhausted from it.
'Barely passed huh. Pathetic.'
"Well Ms. Khos! You did splendidly! We have recorded your information and will update your medical records momentarily. You are free to go!" she paused, turning towards Railet
"However, you need to update your records. The operation was a success, but we need your information on file in case of malfunction. "
"Yeah, yeah, whatever. I'll update it later." he replied with an uninterested voice.
"But Sir, if it malfunctions it could-"
" I don't care. If it malfunctions, fine. I'm going to die either way, aren't I?!" he snarled back, causing the nurse to jump slightly. He eerily calmed down quickly, almost as if those feelings had been eaten. "Whatever. I'll get the tests done on Friday. Don't bug me about it." he got up from his chair and started making his way down to the exit where Zairu would be coming from. She needed help getting here, so obviously she'd need help getting back.
He leaned against a wall while the nurse talked to her about the results and how well she did. He slowly begun glaring at the nurse, though it looked like he was glaring at both of them.
How did she know about that? That was information only Kei's subordinates should know. Unless she was one he didn't see before.
'Suspicious....I'm going to have to keep an eye on you....' he thought, wondering slightly if the girl had heard anything. It was none of her business and it seemed that everyone decided to just openly talk about as if it was everyone's business.
Pretty soon, she finished and he left her again to catch up. Company was not something he enjoyed, much less the company of someone as strange as her. She can follow and find the room perfectly fine. They were able to reach the dorms farely quickly.
"There. Memorize it next time." he said to her, in a slight condescending voice. He allowed her no time to respond, leaving her again. He didn't go to his room as she thought originally, but stood in front of the dorm door for a minute. He was looking at something, that from a distance looked like a small pendant. Aggrivated, he threw it with all the force he had before turning around and teleporting away.

She gave a breath of relief as the person replied that all the tests were done, finding her way to the exit. There was the sound of angry words that reached her ears, but she couldn’t hear exactly what it was to discern the argument’s course. Exiting the room, she found the nurse waiting for her and started to explain the results.
“Your reflexes are very good, though the boulder seemed to pose a problem…” The nurse continued, and although Zairu looked composed, she was mentally shaking the nurse. Of course she was going to have a problem with a huge boulder coming at her! What had that test been trying to prove?
“Wait…so why the boulder?” Zairu asked.
“Oh, it’s to test your strength. There are some students here that can crack the thing in half!” The nurse replied, making Zairu lose her color slightly for a moment. Ummm, remind her not to get of those particular people’s bad side. Her eyes flickered over to Railet who was leaning against a wall and he seemed to be glaring at the two of them. Shoot, what the heck had she done now!? Well, she had sort of been following them and then he’d had to take her here…maybe the extra hold-up was making him even more annoyed.
The nurse was finally finished with her and she had to walk quickly to catch up to Railet. Okay, he definitely found her an annoyance. What else could she think? He didn’t say anything! Just glared all the time…and it seemed all the more evident when they finally arrived at the dorms. She had a shocked expression that quickly became a glare when he spoke so condescendingly to her. So sorry that she hadn’t memorized everything in last night! There was no time to response, so the glare was all she could muster. The next time he came back bloody, maybe she wouldn’t—no, that was petty. Stupid boy…she hadn’t felt this annoyed with someone in a long time. He seemed extremely angry as he threw something down the hallway (she only got a glimpse of it as some light glinted off it) and then was gone.
That boy has some issues… She thought, though now she didn’t want to go to her room. No, she was going to memorize this damnable place! Zairu was stubborn and Railet had pushed the right buttons that would make her comb this place until she knew where every dent and crevice were!
~*~*~*~*~
A few days had passed and Zairu had been true to her word. Without anything to do, aside from assessing her level of education and whatnot, she’d been left entirely to herself. That meant exploring, which probably would have been more enjoyable if she’d had that to share with Chiwi. However, she hadn’t seen even a feather of the girl and it worried her. Well, hopefully she would find her today when classes started for Zairu. Everything had been checked out and now the rest of the facility was open to her. Aside from those few places, Zairu knew where everything was and hadn’t gotten lost once! She wasn’t as good to say she could direct people, but she was slowly getting there.
Take that, jerk! She thought as she was putting on her clothes. Zairu was nervous; not only was she having to and meet new people, but the worse part of it was that she had been unable to procure new clothing that fit her taste. They seemed intent on having everyone on display! Shoot, she’d even talked with a bear-spliced girl to see if she could get a couple of her clothes, but that seemed impossible.
Sighing, she let her hair stay down to try and help out with her problem before leaving the room and walking towards her new classes. It wasn’t long before she was within the educational wing and was trying to find her class. A couple questions and soon she was in the classroom and talking to her new teacher. He seemed intent on having her introduced to the class, despite Zairu saying that it was alright. Oh no, everyone had to introduce themselves when coming into the classes!
“Class, we have a new student. Her name is Zairu Khos, she came a few days ago, so let’s welcome her.”
“Nice to meet you.” Zairu said, though she really wished they would stop staring at her. She hated being the center of attention. Okay, maybe not all the time, but this was not one of those times. Zairu was happy when she was finally directed to her seat, though her sense were on high alert. Was watching a person walk to their seat that fascinating? She couldn’t get to her seat soon enough and breathed a silent sigh of relief when the teacher began to talk. Hopefully she would become acquainted with the people surrounding her.
