Alright! This is for newbies, oldies and even the authoresses of this story. I figured that since I tend to come up with strange items in here that I ought to explain them as well.
First off, thanks to anyone reading this and the story ^___^ Support means a lot to us.
Second, this story takes place in a futurized version of our world. The year is 2152 A.D. While this is in the future, one must remember that some cultures are still behind on the times and items that we currently have will still appear every so often. Some of the countries we have now have either expanded their territory, shrunk or disappeared completely. I will have to draw a diagram to show how the build of the world is in this story compared to ours currently.
Now, onto the explaining! I'm just going to go ahead and list several things and explain those that need elaboration.
Currently the Noikero company is the largest power in the Western Hemisphere, rivaling the Blesk company of the Northern Hemisphere.
During the story, the rivalry between Noikero and Blesk takes a big toll on the characters and is the main reason for the mass kidnapping and transformation of several human subjects.
Prior to the storyline, Noikero released a vaccine decree. Every one in the Western Hemisphere, whether they were visitor, resident, old or young, are required to take this vaccine. It was covered up as a vaccine for a new disease that was discovered. People who receive the vaccine would either have an allergic reaction or not. Those with a reaction to the vaccine had enough credentials to be experimented on without the risk of mass death among subjects. Supposedly there about 592 subjects on one continent along. However that continent is the largest in the Western Hemisphere and thus is bound to have more subjects than the rest.
Subjects are matched with animals based on intelligence, strength, endurance, and personality. If one person cannot be pinned to one specific animal, they will go by either nationality (as in a native animal to their country. For instance, a German may get a German bird or bear. Etc.) or at random from a list of choices.
Effects of the experiments vary per case. Some lose their sanity, others age faster, age slower, appear to look older or younger, and several other cases. These however are the most common. This is a result of tampering with a person's DNA.
MIMIC-
I believe this warrants its own little section lulz.
The MIMIC is a being who is created from scratch. The only exception to that being the first MIMIC created. A MIMIC's blood is set with nanomachines that will alter DNA at the molecular level to reform a body into a different shape. Most of the time, it mimics a primal feature for what it needs to complete. For instance, a MIMIC that is commanded to hunt a certain person, will mimic the features of a predatory animal to complete it's mission. Most MIMICs now are fully robotic and are no longer human. Only 4 MIMICs were created, one being human. However, one MIMIC malfunctioned and was scrapped as it no longer was able to be repaired. The remaining two MIMICs have already shown up in the story and are the ones who kidnap the new subjects. Most of the time their default form is that of a human being. While robotic, the nanomachines have enabled them to have somewhat of a human psyche because it mimics that ability from those people that it is around.
The first MIMIC was created using an unborn child and injecting them with the nanomachines. This child was the first human MIMIC and is considered Imperfect. This is because as a human, the child has emotions, a mind that thinks for itself and a will. This child however is granted special abilities thanks to the MIMIC cell, but that's not the only thing. As time progressed the MIMIC cell that normally lays dormant as a program in the nanomachines became active. This cell takes over the nanomachines and before long becomes a separate personality. Unlike the normal MIMIC program, this one watches a person's mood, attitude, and personality, and mimics the OPPOSITE. This is the second reason the first MIMIC was a failure.
Special abilities of a MIMIC-
Allowed to change forms (Non-human only)
Altering cells at the molecular level to change into a different element (Both)
Can change voice and appearances (Non-human)
Enhanced strength, stamina, and intelligence (both)
Advanced form of healing wounds makes them nearly invincible. (both)
Disadvantages- Human only as Non-human MIMICs don't have many disadvantages to begin with.
Because of accelerated body processes, the body often becomes weak trying to keep up.
The MIMIC cells proceed far more blood than the body can handle, and will expel out of the body in the fastest way possible. This blood is normal while inside of the body but once it touches oxygen it becomes acidic. The fastest way for this human to expel the extra tainted blood is through the mouth. Since the blood is not acidic inside of the body, there is no damage to the human's insides.
A split personality with opposite thoughts and processes that can prove to be troublesome at times.
Acceptance by others is awkward if even possible at all.
Because of the strange cells inside the body, the outside is altered as well. In this state of time, unnatural colored hair is frowned upon, and in several cultures believed to be the mark of experimentation. Many people who are experimented on are shunned for this very reason.
So far that's it for the MIMICs section, should there be something I missed, I will update it later.
The Scientists and items they use-
Not much will be explained here about the scientists since that is what the profile section is for. However, I will explain what they use and how it works.
First off is how the experiment begins. It starts off with the subjects being stripped of clothing and placed in the white hospital gowns. A sanitation process begins where they are first washed in scalding water to kill any bacteria on the skin. They are promptly cooled down with cold water. This is because the DNA alter vials cannot work fully on a heated surface. Normal body temperature is just in reach of the vial, but as added protection all rooms are several degrees colder than normal room temperature. Once phase 1 is complete, all subjects are split up into three groups with one head scientist and one assistant taking care of the group. Each group is then placed in a chamber where they are either experimented on individually or in group. Depends on the scientist and just how they're feeling at that point.
Dark Serum- The Dark Serum is a liquid contained in a black vial. It's purpose is to sink into a person's DNA and prepare all the lines for the soon-to-come rewriting.
Blue and Green vials- The Blue vials used by the scientists contain the essence of the DNA that is going to replace the strands in the subject. Like all other vials, once it touches blood, it dissolves into it and travels through that stream into the DNA.
Green vials are pain killers. A light green vial is half dose and will only numb enough pain that a patient won't be screaming and thrashing around prior to the actual DNA being inserted. Once the blue vial is in effect, this vial completely becomes inactive. It's rather pointless, but some scientists in Noikero Industries employ using this rather than going deaf by a room full of patients screaming. Dark green vials are full strength and depending on the person's tolerance to medicine will either knock them out or make them completely numb to the point where it looks like they are brain dead.
There are several different types of medicine throughout this story, and most of them will be explained when they arise.
Now, the final phase of the experimentation is waiting for the DNA vials to sink in and change the person. Once that is complete, vitals and tests are taken to see just how well the person has taken to the strands. This is phase where most patients die.
Finally I will explain the visors used by the scientists. Well, actually this visors are not only used by the scientists, but by half of the existing world. These are the new form of computers. They are stored in a microchip that is no larger than a bottle cap (bottle cap sized visors are older models and are awkward to use. They are somewhat slower and have lower capabilities than the newer models). The scientists of Noikero company sport the newest model, which is a small earring that is placed on the right ear or left ear depending on what your dominant side is.
Normally the computer on board this tiny earring is in sleep mode. It requires a light tap to activate it and reads the motions of your body to activate the screen. Most people tap it and wave their hand in front of their face in a sunrise motion. Usually this motion will not only activate the display option, but it will bring up whatever files and programs were last used at the discretion of the user. These computers use what is called a H.T.S. (A Hologram Touch System). This allows the user to touch the items displayed when selecting things. However since it is a hologram it is possible for one's hand to go through if they do not select an actual item on screen. Features are basic touch and drag and drop items, with a holographic keyboard upon request. Several other features are available, but most are not used.
This earring runs on a rechargeable battery system, requiring the user to remove it before going to sleep or when not in use. It normally takes 4 or 5 hours to recharge it completely and it can stay on for a total of 156 hours before needing to be recharged again.
Siren of Lone Wolves-
This story is named after the institution for those who were experimented on. This place alone warrants a page of explanation. And so I will explain this in another post.
That is it for the first class of Siren 101! I will do another post later on with information regarding the institution and all of it's many awkward items and areas.
